BCCI New Rules: The Apex Council allows two bouncers per over; Changes Impact Player rule for Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy
According to BCCI new rules two bouncers will be permitted per over in the domestic T20 competition known as the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT), and the Impact Player rule, which was experimented with previous season, will undergo minor alterations.
The Impact Player can now be utilised at any point during the game, much like it was in the IPL this year. Previously, in SMAT, it could only be employed prior to the 14th over of an innings.
BCCI introduces new rules “to balance the contest between bat and ball”
The other change is that, unlike the IPL, where captains carried two team sheets for the coin flip and settled the XI after the toss, teams will now be required to announce their starting lineups and four substitute players before the toss.
The reason why bowlers are permitted to bowl two bouncers in an over is “to balance the contest between bat and ball,” according to a BCCI release following its 19th Apex Council meeting, which was held in Mumbai on Friday. This year’s T20 competition will take place from October 16 to November 6 following the Irani Cup and prior to the Vijay Hazare Trophy (a 50-over competition).
BCCI approves India’s participation in Asian Games
India’s participation in the forthcoming Asian Games in Hangzhou in September, for both men’s and women’s teams, was also reaffirmed during the Apex Council meeting. According to the press release, “BCCI will choose players from among those not competing in the World Cup to play in the Asian Games” because of the Asian Games’ schedule conflicting with that of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup in 2023.
The BCCI also intends to create regulations governing Indian cricketers’ participation in international T20 tournaments. Only cricketers who have retired from all forms of Indian cricket are currently allowed to play in foreign leagues, however recently a number of retired cricketers have chosen to play abroad.
A two-pronged plan to renovate the stadiums in India was also put out. The second part of the improvement plan will focus on the remaining venues, while the grounds hosting the ODI World Cup matches would receive immediate treatment.
No Rohit, Kohli, Hardik, Jadeja in India’s Asian Games squad
Following the historic announcement that India’s men’s and women’s cricket teams would be permitted to compete in the Asian Games 2023, which will be held in Hangzhou, China in September-October, the BCCI confirmed on Saturday that no players who would be eligible for the World Cup would be given consideration for selection in the men’s team for the Asian Games.
As a result, India’s first-ever men’s cricket team for the Asian Games will be without regular captain Rohit Sharma, vice captain Hardik Pandya, star batter Virat Kohli, all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, keeper-batter KL Rahul, pacers Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj, among other regulars in ODIs.
