BCCI announces India’s T20 squads for West Indies Tour, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Tilak Varma earns maiden call ups; Rohit, Kohli Dropped

On Wednesday, BCCI announced the 15-member India’s squad for the five-match T20Is series against Bangladesh. The T20Is series will kick off next month after the scheduled two Test and three ODIs matches in July. The first three matches of the T20I series will be played in the West Indies from August 3-8, while the remaining two will be played in Florida in the USA from August 12-13.

According to the BCCI announcement, Hardik Pandya will continue leading the T20 team and Suryakumar Yadav named as his deputy. Coming to the squad two players – Yashasavi Jaiswal and Tilak Verma have earned the maiden national call-ups courtesy of their impressive performances in the IPL 2023.

Jaiswal was in a sublime touch with the bat for Rajasthan Royals. While opening the batting line-up, he ended the season as fifth-highest run-scorer and smashed 625 runs at a strike rate of 163.61 including a century and five half-centuries. While Tilak continued his debut season’s heroics in 2023 for the Mumbai Indians and played match-winning knocks in middle-order.

Coming to the bowling department, Arshdeep Singh, Mukesh Kumar, Umran Malik and Avesh Khan will be the four pace bowlers while Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Ravi Bishnoi, Axar Patel will lead the spin bowling department.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli continue to miss out from the T20Is circuit and the reason behind their omission from the shortest format of the game after the 2022 T20 World Cup has not been revealed yet.
