Shreyas Iyer and Shahbaz Ahmed to replace Hardik and Deepak Hooda for the South Africa series

According to reports, Shahbaz Ahmed and Shreyas Iyer have been called up to the squad.

Deepak Hooda’s injury

Deepak Hooda, the 27-year-old all-rounder from Rohtak, just can’t seem to catch a break. He made his international debut this year after having a stellar run in domestic cricket for several years. He made it count and demonstrated what he’s capable of after a prolific IPL season and with the Indian team. He injured his back and got sidelined in the recent series against Australia, and he is now officially ruled out of the T20i series against South Africa. Shreyas Iyer has been called up as a replacement.

Hardik Pandya rested for series against South Africa

Hardik Pandya has been asked to take a rest following his heroics this season in both International and IPL as he proves to be the match-winner India needs in the upcoming World Cup. His fitness and contribution would determine India’s faith as they don’t wanna risk an injury. RCB all-rounder Shabaz Ahmed has been called up as a replacement.

Shreyas Iyer has had a phenomenal year with the bat for India this year, receiving a player of the series award in Virat’s absence against Sri Lanka; his inclusion will boost batting depth by enabling others more freedom to operate. Shahbaz was an IPL product who debuted for RCB in the 2021 IPL season and has been a regular ever since. His nifty left-arm orthodox, combined with his ability to chip in with occasional runs, would be critical if he is to make the starting XI.

Mohammad Shami is still covid positive and isn’t available for selections.
