Riots and Stampede reported at football match in Indonesia; hundreds feared dead


Gory video of stampede has emerged from the East Java Province where 129 people have reportedly died and 180 have been injured after a postmatch riot.
According to reports by the Reuters, the event took place in the aftermatch of a local match between Arema FC and Persebaya Surabaya.
The game ended at the score of 3-2 in favor of Persebaya. And the fans of losing fans were not happy at all. Hence they stormed the field causing a riot like situation.
The police deployed to take control of the situation used tear gar to disperse the crowd. This action of theirs resulted in a stampede that ended up killing over 100 people.

Following this event, the BRI Liga 1 of Indonesia has suspended the games for the following weekend. Simultaneously they have also launched an investigation into the matter.
The Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI) has ensured a thorough investigation into the matter.
This is not the first time that a violent protest has been witnessed in Indonesia. They have a history of rival fans clashing on the football field. Hence, several riots like situation are witnessed by them in the past as well.
But nothing comes close to the destruction and casualty caused by this incident.
