Rajasthan Royals issues official statement after social media gimmick goes wrong; calls it all a prank

Rajasthan Royals has created quite a buzz around the internet even before the season has kicked off. Known for their gimmicks on social media, this time, the franchise is under the hammer for all wrong reasons. And this has forced them to come out with an explanation for the same.

Before diving into the explanation, let’s understand the heart of the matter.

The Sanju Samson caricatures

It all started last week after the social handle of RR posted an edited photo of Sanju Samson. In that photo, the handler had created a caricature of Samson. They immediately deleted that post.

This was not taken well by Samson. He later went on to his Twitter handle to share his discontent. Samson tweeted: “It is ok for friends to do this, but teams should be professional….”

The team was immediate in their response to their captain’s tweet. They, too, took it to social media, apologising for their mistake.

“In light of today’s events, we will be making changes to our approach and team on social media. Everything is well within the squad ahead of the first game as the boys prepare for SRH…” they wrote in their message and promised to come up with interim solutions.

The gimmick didn’t end at that, though. Instead on Friday, they posted another video from the point of view of the social media Admin. In the video, he tries to pursue various team members to help him save his job. In the end, he is fired by the CEO himself.

The video ends with a message: Thanks for the memories. Everyone thought that it was really an end. However, on Saturday morning, the management announced that it was all a part of a prank.

Posting a video on their social media handle, they wrote, “this prank was incomplete without a fake audition….”

This strategy has definitely not gone down well with the fans. Instead of creating a positive engagement, it has enraged the fans who are seriously demanding a change in the admins.

Below are some of the reactions of the fans:
