Rahmanulla Gurbaz breaks Rohit Sharma’s record by smashing 84 off 45 against Sri Lanka in super 4 stage of T20 Asia Cup

Afghanistan’s team has been a force to reckon in this year’s Asia Cup. They started their tournament by showing some great bowling prowess. And as the tournament progresses their batters are coming to the party.
An example of the same was on display on Saturday as their 20-year-old batter Rhmanullah Gurbaz broke Rohit Sharma’s record of highest individual score in Asia Cup T20.
In the opening fixture of the super 4 league stage, Gurbaz smashed 84 off just 45 deliveries against Sri Lanka. The opener took the experienced Sri Lankan bowling attack. And dismantled them all around the ground.
Rahmanulla Gurbaz smashes Rohit Sharma’s record
It all started for Gurbaz in the third over in which he smashed Theekshana for consecutive sixes to announce his intentions. Then he scored 10 more runs in the consecutive over to make up for the slow start.
Gurbaz’s carnage was felt by every bowler, including the likes of Hasaranga and Karunaratne. He brought up is fifty in just 22balls. But his freak show continued even after that and the player registered the highest individual score in T20 Asia Cup, before getting out in the 16th over to Asitha Fernando.
With this inning Gurbaz broke the previous best individual score of Rohit Sharma that had stood for 6 years. The Indian captain had scored 83 off 55 against Bangladesh in 2016.
Sadly enough Rahmanullah Gurbaz’s inning went in vain. The wicketkeeper had no support from the other end and his team could only post 175 in their 20 overs.
Sri Lanka chased that score with 5 balls to spare. The courtesy of this victory will go to Rajapaksha who scored 31 off just 14 to cruise his side to an easy victory.
