Oden Smith, Mayank Agarwal, and Shahrukh Khan are set to be released ahead of the mini-auction in December.
Punjab Kings (PBKS) appears to be preparing for another massive overhaul and disruption as they mull releasing former captain Mayank Agarwal, Odean Smith, and Shahrukh Khan.
According to Cricbuzz, the new coaching team, led by Trevor Bayliss, has its sights set on some of the big names in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 mini-auction.
PBKS currently seems to have the largest purse of any franchise and might enhance it by removing players from their team. The forthcoming auction is expected to feature a slew of star signings.
Change is the only constant.
This a saying Preity Zinta and CO live by and have done so since the IPL’s inception. They’ve never had the same guy captain them for three seasons in a row. The same is held for the coaches, who have been ‘hired and fired’ yet again.
The hire and fire policy only work under certain conditions, and it’s no accident that the most successful IPL teams have stayed true to their core for years.
Can PBKS wreak havoc in IPL 2023?
Hopefully. They have a pretty decent core in the form of Dhawan, Rabada, Arshdeep, Liam Livingston, Rahul Chahar, Bairstow, and Jitesh Sharma. It’s the captaincy and recruitment that would define their chances next season.
