In his small period as the captain of the Indian Cricket team, Rohit Sharma has become famous for his quirky replies during press conferences. And he used the same approach when addressing a press conference ahead of India’s t20 series against Australia.

Anyone who follows the Indian team constantly is aware of the great uproar caused around the opening position in the Indian team.

This uproar has been caused by the century scored by Virat Kohli in the final super 4 game against Afghanistan. Kohli smashed 122 runs in 61 balls to score his 71st international century. And maiden T20I century.

Rohit Sharma press conference on Kohli

Following this, everyone is buzzing if Kohli should be the opener for India in the upcoming World Cup. This claim has been backed by the fact that KL Rahul is not in the form of his life for India.

However, Rohit Sharma slammed all these claims in his recent conference.

Sharma said in his peculiar manner, “Hamare Andar kya khichdi pak rahi hai wo hume pata hai (We do not have any confusion)” when asked if Kohli would open in T20 World Cup.

“KL Rahul will open the batting in the World Cup; his performance sometimes goes quite unnoticed. He is a very important player for Team India. For us, I just want to make it clear that we are clear in our thought process,” Rohit Sharma added.

The Indian captain also offered clarification on Virat Kohli’s situation. Clarifying his role in the team, Sharma said that Kohli would play as the third opener. This means that he will only be considered an opening option if the situation arises.

Earlier this year Indian team also experimented with Rishabh Pant and Suryakumar Yadav in opening. But none of the moves worked out.

Kohli, on the other hand, had a significant impact as an opener. Also, critics had pointed out that his best year in IPL came in 2016 when he opened the inning for RCB. So that is another point that makes a strong case for playing Kohli as an opener.
