Chennai Super Kings return to winning ways, as their talisman MS Dhoni takes the reigns as the captain. They defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad to claim their only 3rd victory of the season.
It was a cagy match and a must-win one for Chennai Super Kings, and they have won it in style.
Chennai started on the right foot as Gaikwad played a masterful knock in the first inning. It was sad to see him depart for a well-made 99. Alongside the young Indian, Devon Conway put up a show as well. The Kiwi smashed 85 off 55 to help Chennai post 203 runs on the board.
Later some excellent and economical bowling by Chennai bowlers saw them over the line. They defeated the Sunrisers Hyderabad side by 13 runs. Mukesh Choudhary once again emerged as the pick of the bowler for them. He picked up four wickets in his four overs and gave away 46 runs.
With this victory, Chennai returns to winning ways, having suffered two defeats on the trot.
The reinstated Skipper, MS Dhoni, couldn’t have asked for a better return to the role.
Captaincy saga of CSK
Right before the start of the 15th season of the marquee tournament, a big announcement of MS Dhoni stepping down from his role as captain was made. This was met by a very mixed response by the fans.
While some saw it as a positive move, keeping the future in mind. Others were just upset not to see their favorite player marshalling his troops around.
However, fate had other plans.
Under the captaincy of Ravindra Jadeja, the new captain, CSK, had the worst start to their campaign in the tournament’s history. They lost four matches on the trot. And couldn’t find traction even after registering their first victory against RCB.
They had lost 6 out of the eight matches at the season’s halfway stage.
That is when Ravindra Jadeja made the critical decision of handing over the captaincy back to Dhoni.
CSK even released an official statement claiming Dhoni accepted the role to allow Jadeja to focus on his game. This decision had a massive impact on the first game that CSK played.
Chennai Super Kings fans will be hoping to see their side qualify for the playoffs under the captaincy of MSD.
