IPL 2023: Royal Challengers Bangalore trades Jason Behrendorff to Mumbai Indians.

After two forgettable seasons, Mumbai has taken steps to ensure that it does not happen again.

Jason Behrendorff, Australia’s left-arm fast bowler, will return to the Mumbai Indians after being traded by the Royal Challengers Bangalore ahead of the IPL 2023. He was bought by Royal Challengers for INR 75 lakh at the 2022 auction but did not see any game action.

Prior gigs

Behrendorff has been in the IPL for five years, but he has spent four of them on the bench. He was with Mumbai from 2018 to 2020 but only played in the 2019 season. That year, he took five wickets in five games at an economy rate of 8.68.

Chennai Super Kings recruited him in 2021 to replace Josh Hazlewood. He did not play in the first half of the event, but Hazlewood returned when play resumed in the UAE.

Behrendorff has played nine T20Is for Australia, taking seven wickets with a high of four for 21. He has 117 wickets in 105 T20s with an economy rate of 7.41.

Other fast bowlers in Mumbai’s roster include Jasprit Bumrah, Jofra Archer, Riley Meredith, and Daniel Sams. Mumbai, the most successful IPL club in history, finished eighth in a ten-team league in 2022.

IPL 2023 Auction

The auction for the 2023 season will take place on December 23 in Kochi. It will be a mini-auction, as opposed to the mega-auction held ahead of the 2022 edition, when the ten teams were forced to rebuild their squads from the ground up.

Each team will have an additional INR 5 crore to spend at this auction in addition to the money left over from their previous auction purse plus the value of the players they release, bringing the total purse to INR 95 crore.
