FC Barcelona has beaten Tottenham in the race to acquire Wolves Adama Traore. The Catalonian giant, despite its financial crisis, has managed to find a way to rope in the Spaniards.
It was a long and ongoing process where Barcelona tussled with English team Tottenham to acquire Traore’s services. And in the end, it seems that the Wolves winger decided to join his former club for a short-term loan.
This transfer is a huge blow to the hopes of Antonio Conte. It was reported earlier that the Italian coach was keen on acquiring the services of Traore in the winter window. The deal was personally driven by their managing director Fabio Paratici. Still, somehow Tottenham has managed to falter it.
Tottenham’s failed attempt to acquire Adama Traore
Antonio Conte, however, is reported to be desperate for getting some new faces into the squad. He has gone to the extent of announcing it very vividly that even if it’s “not the best opportunity… we need to do something.” As things stand, Tottenham enters the final hour of the transfer window without registering a single transfer.
Barcelona, on the other hand, will be overjoyed by this deal. After being reported going through a rough financial patch, they have managed to hold off well so far in this window.
They were able to unload players a high waged player like Coutinho. On top of that, they even acquired Ferran Torres from Manchester City and Dani Alves for a free transfer.
While Ousmane Dembele’s contract still hangs on the verge of getting curtailed, Barcelona has found a likely if a not apt substitute for the Frenchman in the form of Traore.
As things stand, Barcelona has acquired Traore for a short-term loan till June 2022. It further involves an option of buying the player for a hefty price of $ 39 million. But it’s not a mandatory clause in the contract so Barcelona won’t worry about that.
And who knows, if Traore’s services help them win the Europa League, then they might even consider buying him after all.
