Indian athletes have been in great nick in the ongoing Commonwealth games in Birmingham. After weightlifting, judo, and lawn bowling, it’s the jumper’s chance to take center stage.  And India’s long jumpers are doing just that.

On Tuesday, Murali Sreeshankar and Mohammad Anees Yahiya showcased some great performances in the qualifying round.

First, it was Sreeshankar who leaped a magnificent distance of 8.05 m in his first attempt to reach the final. He was quick off the blocks and made the qualification with relative ease.

Yahiya, on the other hand, had a slow start to his campaign. And took all three of his attempts, in which he jumped 7.49, 7.68, and 7.49 meters, to reach the final. He was third on the qualifying list of his group.

Sreeshankar, on the other hand, was on top of his as none of the other jumpers managed to breach the qualification mark of 8 meters. He is also considered to be a medal contender from the Indian contingent.
